This episode is the second session in an ongoing demo series with the same volunteer exploring chronic pain. In this session, we gently explore the disconnection he feels from his body and the grief beneath it — particularly the grief of not being able to “play” in his body the way he once could. Through a process with his inner young one, he accesses the sadness of losing spontaneity, movement, and joy.
Chronic pain often creates a protective distance between a person and their body. Over time, the body can begin to feel like the source of suffering rather than a place of belonging. When that happens, disconnection becomes adaptive. Rather than forcing reconnection with the body, we then turn toward honoring the wisdom of the disconnection itself. What if the distance from the body is not pathology, but protection? What if the system is organizing around something intelligent?
This session illustrates a core principle of this work: we do not override survival strategies. We make contact with them. And in that contact, something begins to soften.
The full session is streaming FREE for one week on Patreon. After that, it will be available to paid members.
If you are a therapist working with chronic pain, somatic disconnection, or grief around lost vitality, this episode offers a grounded example of how depth work unfolds slowly, relationally, and without force.
Healing does not begin with pushing the body to change. It begins with restoring relationship.
